Repiping in Houston: What you need to know & ask.

Repiping in Houston: What you need to know & ask.

What is PEX?

Uponor PEX plumbing systems feature a flexible, durable plastic piping product called cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing instead of metal piping to distribute the water. It is a flexible, durable, proven piping product that has been used in plumbing systems for more than 20 years. PEX tubing is a clean, non-toxic and extremely durable piping product that will not pit, scale or corrode and even helps resist freeze damage. During our visit, we provide you with a sample of the products we use.

Do you provide a warranty on repiping services?

Yes. We have one of the best warranties in Houston. We provide a fully-transferable 5-year labor warranty; also, Uponor proudly backs the PEX tubing and ProPEX®fittings in its plumbing systems with a 25-year limited warranty. We provide all of these for your peace of mind!

How long does it take?

2 - 5 days. It mostly depends on the size and layout of your home. The system design also plays a significant role in the amount of time required to remove old pipes and replace them.

Will we have to leave our home?

Nope. However, a repipe is a complete remodel project, so there will be much activity in several rooms in your home. You can stay at home or take the opportunity to play a few rounds of golf or run a few errands.

How long will my water be turned off?

The water typically gets turned off early on the first day and will go back on at the end of the day. If the repipe goes into the second day, you and your family will have access to at least one bathroom overnight.

Is it expensive?

The final cost of your repipe will depend on the size and complexity of your home. If your home is one story with two baths, one water heater, and standard utilities the average price in Houston is between $4,500 & $7,000. Each repipe business offers a variety of services such as:

  • New Service Valves for all fixtures

  • Patching drywall

  • Proper Insulation of exposed pipe

  • Use of Copper where rigidity is best.

A two-story home will be between $7,000 & $15,000. Key things to ask when receiving quotes is the scope of work (see list above) the quality of materials used and the WARRANTY.

Do you know the right questions to ask to when comparing services?

A home repipe is a very technical service that requires a permit, an inspection from the city, and a variety of different materials. A Quality Repipe is more than sitting down pipe and attaching valves. When comparing services be sure to ask about insulation, type of “Stub-outs”, what type of valve’s will be installed, if any, ask about the warranty, anchors & isolators, and if new hose bibs will be included and what will be done with the old pipe. These are corners that are often cut by the lowest bidder on repipe jobs. So be sure to ask. A repipe when designed & installed by a licensed professional will last for years and years without issues. Never hire a handyman to do a professionals job.

We use materials & tools from the industries most trusted brands like BrassCraft, Uponor, FluidMaster, Milwaukee & more. We insulate & anchor the pipe, use Copper stub-outs, and are there for you years after our job is done.
