What Is Flo by Moen and Is It Worth It?
A neighbor here in Kingwood called with a concern that felt pretty familiar:
“Our water bill jumped, and we’re nervous about the water heater in the attic. We’re gone a lot. We just want to know the house is safe.”
That is a real concern around here. In many Kingwood homes, the plumbing starts in the attic and works its way down through the house. When a leak starts up there, it does not always show itself right away. Sometimes it starts with wet insulation or a higher water bill, and the ceiling stain comes later.
When I got to the house, we started with the basics: meter check, a walkthrough, and a look at how the plumbing was laid out. They had already been doing what a lot of careful homeowners do — watching the bill, checking things when they could, and turning the main off before trips. But what they really wanted was a better layer of protection if something went wrong while they were asleep or out of town.
We talked through a few options. Spot leak alarms and pads can help, but they only protect the areas you cover. In a home with attic plumbing and water lines running overhead, that only goes so far.
For this house, a whole-home leak detection and automatic shutoff system made more sense.
We installed a Flo by Moen shutoff valve on the main line in a clean, serviceable spot, made sure power and Wi-Fi were good at the valve, and got the system online the same day. By the time we wrapped up, the homeowners could see their water use from their phones, get alerts if something looked wrong, and know the system could shut the water off automatically if needed.
It does not stop plumbing from aging, and it does not replace common sense or maintenance. But in a Kingwood home with an attic water heater, it can give homeowners something they usually do not have: earlier warning and a better chance of limiting damage before a leak turns into a much bigger mess.
If your water heater is in the attic, or you have ever worried about what could happen while you are away from home, this kind of setup may be worth a look.
We help homeowners in Kingwood, Atascocita, Humble, Porter, and nearby areas figure out what makes practical sense for their home.
